Founded in 2012, Forest Avenue Outreach is a nonprofit organization serving its Riverbend neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods in Des Moines, Iowa. We build long-term relationships through educating and empowering individuals, providing opportunities for service within the community, and meeting basic needs. We strive to create unity and peace, in love, with all persons regardless of their religion, gender, race, or creed.
To fulfill our mission, Forest Avenue Outreach embraces partnerships with individuals and organizations who share our passion for service. Go to our Volunteer Survey or make a donation to support wholesome food grown in the neighborhood. For general comments or inquiries, please contact us — we’d love to hear from you!
The Forest Avenue Community Orchard project aims to inspire youth and their families to engage in environmental stewardship and community food access in the Des Moines Riverbend Neighborhood. The orchard will serve as an area for learning, a natural playground, and nutritional food source. Environmental stewardship combined with science education will allow young people to gather together and participate in activities to give back to the community in which they live and contribute to social, environmental, and self-sufficient practices in a supervised environment.
