Forest Ave Outreach began in September 2012 after Ralph and Rebecca Chiodo returned to Des Moines, IA to live as urban domestic missionaries. Their marriage in December 1999 enrolled them in the school of hard knocks in which they received a broad education. God, however, in His wisdom, has woven this education and their personal interests and talents into the tapestry that is today Forest Ave Outreach. Combining a love for nature and sustainability practices with producing and preserving healthy food with a desire to be used by God to share His love with all people, the ministry developed.
Starting simply with a 5-week community outreach at Evelyn Davis Park in October 2012 FAO’s growth exploded with the support of many wonderful friends, volunteers, organizations and lots and lots of hard work. Between the various outreach events, community gardens, fishing club and living in the neighborhood, we’ve been befriended by families and neighborhood youth. Excited by these relationships, we look forward to being part of the strengthening and growth of our community!
